INT Soft Boards - FAQs

Q: Who is INT?

A: INT is a collection of passionate surfboard craftsmen committed to providing surfers of all levels with the highest quality, American-made soft surfboards, rescue boards and water tools on the planet. We are owned and operated by surfers in one of the best and most consistent surf regions on earth, southern California. We hand make each and every board at our Oceanside headquarters and on our lunch breaks, we go surfing!

Q: What are INT softboards made of?

A: All INT softboards have a closed cell iFoam core. All of our board decks (tops) and rails (sides) are made of polyethylene foam. Our soft bottom boards have high density polyethylene bottoms and our hard bottom boards are made with epoxy and fiberglass, using traditional surfboard glassing techniques.

Q: What is iFoam?

A: iFoam is a lightweight, waterproof, and highly durable foam developed by us, INT Softboards and molded by Marko Foam right here in the USA. iFoam cores are made from a closed cell material that is tightly fused together, thus eliminating water absorption and keeping our boards performing at a very high level over long periods of time. Our iFoam cores are continuously tested in a variety of surfing conditions to ensure that we are producing the lightest, highest performing, and longest lasting softboards on the planet. Did we mention that iFoam is also 100% recyclable?

Q: What is polyethylene?

A: Polyethylene is an extremely versatile polymer that can be made into a variety of materials. All of our board decks (tops) and rails (sides) are made of polyethylene foam to provide surfers with a soft and safe material to surf and have fun on.

Q: What is high density polyethylene?

A: High density polyethylene (HDPE) is polyethylene plastic resin adhered to polyethylene foam. All of our soft bottom boards have high density polyethylene bottoms. The high density material allows our soft bottom boards to effortlessly glide across the water's surface while remaining extremely safe and durable.

Q: What are the differences between your soft bottom and hard bottom boards?

A: There is only one difference between our soft bottom and hard bottom boards. Our soft bottom boards have high density polyethylene bottoms, which are softer than traditional fiberglass surfboards. They are perfect for beginners learning how to surf or for small and playful waves and crowded spots. Our hard bottom boards have an epoxy and fiberglass bottom, which means they are hard like traditional surfboards and perfect for intermediate and experienced surfers who would like to ride a foamboard that performs like a traditional surfboard.

Q: I'm a beginner. Which board should I buy?

A: If you are an adult who has never surfed before or has limited surfing experience, we recommend our 8’0 Classic and 9'0" Classic. The soft bottoms will provide you with a safe and forgiving material that makes learning how to surf fun and carefree. The lengths of these boards will maximize your wave count and provide you with the stability to stand up quickly and easily.

Q: I'm looking for a board for a child. Which board should I buy?

A: If you are looking to purchase a board for a child who has never surfed before or has limited surfing experience, we recommend The Bird and the 7'0" Classic. If you're looking to purchase a board for a child who already has surfing experience, we recommend our Hybrid Bird and Hybrid 7'0" Classic.
